How to use the Salesforce Zimlet in Zimbra Webmail

The Salesforce.com Zimlet offers drag & drop simplicity in Zimbra’s webmail, allowing you to share notes & calendar events to your Salesforce account. Note: This guide assumes that you already have the Saleforce Zimlet installed in your Zimbra webmail account.

First, let’s go over saving a note to your Salesforce account.

1. Start by logging into your Zimbra webmail account and locate the Salesforce Zimlet.

2. After locating the Zimlet, hover your mouse over it, hold down the Control button and click your mouse or trackpad. On a PC, hover and right click with your mouse or trackpad.

3. Login using your Salesforce ID and password (enter xxxx into the “Ignore Domain” field).

Note: In order for the Salesforce Zimlet to work properly, the messages you drag to the Zimlet must be relevant to your Accounts, Contacts, and Opportunities already existing in your Salesforce account. For best results, make sure your Salesforce Contacts are tied to an Account or Opportunity in Salesforce before dragging e-mail messages to the Zimlet. If Salesforce cannot find a relevant Contact/Account relationship, you will receive an error message.

4. In Zimbra, drag an e-mail message related to one or more of your Salesforce.com accounts/contacts onto the Zimlet. A note window will appear requesting where you would like to place the message, also allowing edits to the message.

5. Click ‘OK’ to complete the note transfer to the account in Salesforce.

6. The note we just transferred should now appear in your Salesforce account under Activity History

Additional tasks can be performed in Salesforce by clicking the note’s Subject line (for Salesforce calendaring, follow-up calls, etc).

Adding Calendar Events

You can also add calendar events to your Salesforce calendar with ease just by dropping and dragging Zimbra calendar events into the Salesforce Zimlet. They will automatically appear on your Salesforce calendar.

1. Drag the Zimbra event into the Salesforce Zimlet.

2. …and it will automatically appear in your Salesforce calendar.

I have signed up for a test account with ondecktech. I am trying to link an email message to a specific contact, not just an account. Has anyone had success with this?

Thanks in advance for ANY help. (I might be a little desperate)

    Rjwalk,

The Salesforce Zimlet will only recognize accounts at this time. However, you can drag your existing contacts from Zimbra’s address book to the Salesforce.com Zimlet directly from your Zimbra contacts, and a dialogue box will appear with the option create an account for each individual contact.

I’m trying to get this to work. I’ve re-set the security token and added it to the password, it’s still not working. Is this still working with Zimbra and Salesforce? I’ve been told this zimlet is no longer supported?

  4. jay Says:

    Hi Mackenze,

The Salesforce Zimlet is no longer in development & is considered unsupported. The Zimlet requires an Enterprise account through Salesforce.com to work properly.
